Even if you’re an experienced professional, any work undertaken on roofs and guttering should be approached with care. If you’re thinking of doing anything yourself, please take note of the following safety advice:
  • Always check your ladder to ensure the rungs are not damaged before use
  • Make sure it is grounded on a safe and secure base
  • Keep the space around it free from obstacles and sharp objects
  • Secure your ladder to a rigid fixing to prevent it from slipping
  • Always keep three points of contact with the ladder (both feet and one hand)
  • Never lean beyond your reach, always move your ladder and re-secure it
  • Position the base 30cm from the wall for every 1.2m it is vertical (around 1.2m away for a two-storey home)
  • Store your ladder in a safe place, out of reach of children, after use
