If you’ve got a problem with your boiler don’t worry, many everyday issues are easy to solve. If it is anything more complicated, you’re covered by your boiler manufacturer’s warranty, and you have the reassurance of our two-year warranty as well.

Combi boiler
First of all, check that your boiler and the gas supply are both switched on. Then check the display on your boiler to see if it is showing a fault code. If there is no fault code, try running the nearest hot tap and recheck the display. To rectify the problem, look up the fault code in your operating manual and follow the instructions.

Not sure what model you’ve got?
You’ll find the name and serial number on the drop-down panel on the front of your boiler or on a tag that slides out underneath. Any questions? Call Baxi Customer Support 0330 678 0917.

Conventional boiler
Check whether there is any hot water in your cylinder. If it has all been used all you have to do is wait for the system to refill it. If you’re in a hurry, you can use the immersion heater to speed things up. However, immersion heaters use a lot of energy and can be expensive to run, so only use it when you really need to. If the boiler display shows a fault code, follow the instructions in your operating manual. If you don’t have a copy to hand, you can download one here.

Check to see if the thermostatic valves on your radiators are set correctly. If there are cold spots at the top of one or more of your radiators, there may be air trapped in the system. To release the air, you’ll need to ‘bleed’ the affected radiators. Simply follow the instruction below.

To bleed your radiators, you’ll need a radiator key and an old cloth. Make sure your heating is turned off, and the radiators are cool. Place the key in the bleed valve (located at the top of one end of your radiator) and hold the cloth underneath. Turn the key anti-clockwise to allow air to escape. Turn it back to its original position when the air turns to water. If you have a combi boiler check the pressure gauge. If the reading is less than one bar you will need to re-pressurise your boiler, see below.

Re-pressuring a combi boiler is simple; it only takes a couple of minutes. Just follow the instructions in your operating manual.

If your radiator is leaking, close the two valves on either side of the bottom of your radiator to isolate it. Then open the bleed valve with the radiator key to release the pressure (you’ll find the bleed valve at the top of one end of your radiator). During the winter, external condensate pipes are prone to freezing which can lead to a boiler breakdown. To thaw your pipes, switch your boiler off at the control panel, and turn off the electricity at the wall. Then warm them with a hot water bottle, a microwaveable heat pack or warm water poured from a watering can. Do not use boiling water as this could damage the pipe.
